Alice Peters Diffely is a Certified Chi Running® and Chi Walking® Master Instructor, Registered Yoga Teacher, and a Certified TRE® Provider in Portland.
A Portland native and an avid distance runner ever since she competed for Lincoln High School’s cross country and track teams, Alice was a member of Stanford University’s track team during her freshman year of college, until she was sidelined by injuries. She consistently placed in her age group in local road races throughout her 20’s. Competitive highlights include a 3:06 marathon finish as a law school student.
Alice was limited by Achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis intermittently throughout much of her 30's. In 2004, she read and began practicing principles from the then-newly released book Chi Running: A Revolutionary Approach To Effortless, Injury-Free Running. Thrilled to finally put those nagging injuries behind her, Alice trained personally with Chi Running® and Chi Walking® creator Danny Dreyer in 2007 to become a certified instructor. Through her business Running Mindfully, Inc., Alice has been sharing the benefits of the techniques with runners and walkers throughout the Portland Metropolitan Area ever since. Having practiced yoga and meditation regularly since the late 1990's, in 2011 Alice completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training with Sarahjoy Marsh at Amrita: A Sanctuary For Yoga (now called the DAYA Foundation) in Portland.
Alice is once again placing well in her age group in local road and trail races. She and her family live in Northwest Portland near the trails of Forest Park. Alice's passion is helping others develop improved alignment, strength, flexibility, body awareness, and concentration to become more efficient, more resilient, and less injury-prone runners and walkers.
In July 2017, Alice took a substantial step towards expanding her offerings by completing the process to become a Certified TRE® Provider. Developed by David Berceli, PhD., TRE® stands for Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises. This series of 7 gentle, easy to learn physical exercises is designed to activate a natural process to release stress and tension that has accumulated in our muscles and connective tissue for any reason - whether it be day-to-day life stress, past or ongoing chronic challenges, or sudden traumatic events. Alice regularly incorporates TRE® into her own self-care routine as a complement to her running, walking, and yoga practices. She is particularly interested in sharing this highly effective stress reduction technique with athletes; with parents of chronically ill children; with family and professional caregivers of Alzheimer's/dementia patients; and with adults whose childhoods (and hence their developing nervous systems) were impacted by adversities such as parental substance abuse or divorce.
